Keyword Stuffing

What is Keyword Stuffing ? (Also know as keyword spamming.)

Keyword stuffing is the black hat SEO practice of just stuffing as many related keywords as possible onto a webpage in the hope that a surfer may find his website because of the many thousands of possibilities of a search match.

Unlike spamdexing, black hat SEO webmasters who use keyword stuffing generally do not care about what the page looks like, their main aim is to get the visitor to redirect to an affiliate or to click on a sponsored ad, thereby monetizing the traffic.

When search engines first appeared onto the scene, their algorithms then were so primitive. If a search was done on a particular keyword then primitive search engines would rank their websites in SERPS in accordance to the webpage with the most number of that particular keyword on the page.

Search engine algorithms then thought that the page containing that keyword the most times must be the most relevant page for the surfer to find, thus keyword stuffing was born. However, search engine algorithms have come a long way since then, they had to evolve to take this into account.

Keyword stuffing is usually used in conjunction with creating many doorway pages all made for search engines in the hope that a surfer may input an obscure phrase into a search engine and stumble upon their website.

However, keyword stuffed websites and doorway pages are fast becoming a thorn in the side for many disgruntled surfers who regularly report them to the search engines. In many instances it can only take a handful of complaints by surfers to a search engine to draw attention to a spammy website to the point that the search engine will send an investigator to the site to determine its quality and if it is in breach of the it's guidelines. The Black Hat SEO eBook gives details on how to avoid this.
