Misrepresenting Content
![]() What is Misrepresenting Content ?
Misrepresenting content means intentionally presenting misleading or false content, in many cases building distrust from the surfer.
Many black hat SEO webmasters, desperate to fill their websites are filling the web with millions of pages of misrepresented content.
EG, John went to play viagra and his friend said, I will buy the viagra from you, in my online pharmacy shop, but first lets have a round of golf. Did you eat your little blue pill last night. I got a birdie and he shot a par but the generic pill scored a bogey...
This is one variation of misrepresenting content. The black hat SEO webmaster will fill many pages with unique content that has been scraped from somewhere else of the Internet and then replace many common words within that text with his keywords and keyword phrases. In many instances this kind of misrepresented content will be used in conjunction with cloaking. However, more often thatn not, this kind of page is reported to the search engines and this type of website has a short life span.
Another example of misrepresenting content is by claiming that you have something on your website to attract visitors, but in reality you don't have it at all.
The most common one being the overuse of the word FREE - it's one of the most common search words on the Internet !
EG, Free Ringtones, Free Software etc.. or whatever the company is selling, or whatever service they are providing they optimize their webpage using the word FREE !
However, upon visiting the site the surfer is offered nothing free at all, and is either offered the same or a similar product or service at a price, or redirected to another company with a similar product or service, or presented with related sponsored advertising, which the webmaster hopes they will click to extend their search, and thereby generate an income from the click.
However, the black hat SEO webmaster does not care about the surfers inconvenience, he just optimizes his pages to draw traffic from SERPS with the hope that it can be monetized.
